Shnat Sherut 50 Plus is a bold new model of national service bringing experienced adults aged 50 and above into Israel’s hardest-hit communities for a full year of volunteer work. Born out of the devastation of October 7, this initiative mobilizes skilled professionals – teachers, trauma specialists, social workers, teachers and other professionals to live and serve in areas most in need. Where We Are
Our first three groups of volunteers are working in Sha’ar HaNegev, Ofakim, Merhavim and Eshkol in the Gaza Envelope, supporting local schools, clinics, welfare services, and community programs. Each group is carefully matched to local needs through deep collaboration with the regional councils, who also provide housing.
Growing Impact
With support from many Federations and private donors, we are expanding our reach. In September 2025, we plan to launch new groups in northern communities near the Lebanese border, Matte Asher, bringing professional hands-on help to families facing trauma, displacement, and uncertainty.
